Colorectal cancer is caused by the abnormal growth of cells in the colon or rectum. The most common type of colorectal cancer is colorectal adenocarcinoma, which accounts for about two-thirds of all colorectal cancers. Other types of colorectal cancer include adenoma, sarcoma, and lymphoma. Colorectal cancer is most commonly diagnosed in people over the age of 50, but it can occur at any age. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States, with an estimated 129,000 new cases diagnosed in 2018.
